UN agency seeks to ban plastics worldwide, say they threaten our planet

The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has warned that if something is not urgently done to halt and turn the tide of plastic usage, it could have unimaginable catastrophic effects on the planet.

Announcing the launch of a global campaign on Thursday, Erik Solheim, Executive Director of UNEP, said microplastics cost at least eight billion dollars in damage to marine ecosystems annually.

Solheim said microplastics in the seas now outnumber stars in our galaxy adding, according to estimates, by 2050,  99 per cent of earth’s seabirds will have ingested plastic.

A whistle blower has yet again exposed 10 expensive G-wagon cars allegedly belonging to one man. In a footage released online, the cars included a gold-plated G-wagon valued at millions of naira which is said to be owned by a Nigerian.

The cars were found parked at the residence of the unnamed Nigerian man. The latest discovery has sparked outrage with Nigerians afraid how the elite squandered the commonwealth.

43 Nigerians deported from Germany, Belgium, Italy

About 43 Nigerians were deported from Germany, Belgium and Italy on Thursday night for immigration offences and unruly behaviour, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has said. The deportees arrived through Hi-Fly chartered Airbus 330 with registration number CS-TQW at Murtala Muhammed International Airport at about 8:50 p.m.

CBN reintroduces charges on cash deposits, withdrawals

The Central Bank of Nigeria on Thursday announced that they have reintroduced bank charges on certain categories of cash deposits and withdrawals.

This came about three years after the apex bank stopped the charges.

In a circular to all Deposit Money Banks posted on its website, the regulator said the decision to reintroduce the charges on cash deposits was part of the review of charges on deposits and withdrawals under the cashless policy.

It said the decision was taken at the Bankers’ Committee meeting, which held in Abuja two weeks

Okada rider beheads 12 year old schoolboy in Ekiti [GRAPHIC PHOTO]

The Oyo state police command have arrested a motorcycle rider, Tosin Oluwatosin, pictured above, who was found with a human head at Ifaki-Ekiti in Ekiti state. According to reports, Tosin had picked up the boy with his motorcycle and was to drop him off at home. He however made a detour, took him to a house where the boy was beheaded. Lagos state House of Assembly member asks FG to stop airing BB Nigeria, says its against our values as Nigerians

A member of the Lagos state House of Assembly, Segun Olulade, has called on the Federal government to direct the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission NBC to stop airing the reality TV show, Big Brother Nigeria.

In a statement released today, Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Health Services, Olulade, said the show is not in anyway promoting African values. According to him, the content of the show is aline to the values and culture of Nigeria. His statement in part reads;

Woman dies of Lassa Fever in Cross River

A 22-year old woman, Itodo Christabel, was on Wednesday confirmed dead from Lassa fever in Calabar, capital of Cross River State.

The deceased, who had taken ill in Benue State, reportedly requested an unnamed hospital where she was being treated to refer her to Eburutu Barracks clinic in Calabar to meet her husband who works with the military.

From Eburutu clinic, she was taken to the Navy Hospital, Calabar, where she was managed for some days before being referred to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital where she died less than 12 hours after admission.

Another Student shot dead by suspected cult member [GRAPHIC PHOTO]

A suspected cult member yesterday night, Wednesday 22, killed a 3rd year Education Economic student of the Imo State University, Mr Chidi Opara.

According to information made available to, Chidi, 24 years was said to have being spotted around Bishop Court Area (IMSU back-gate) when the yet to be identified cultist confronted him and wanted to snatch his phone,the victim's stiff resistance was said to have angered the alleged cultist who pulled out his gun and shot chidi to death around 10pm.

Breaking News:Leicester City sacks Coach Claudio Raneiri

This is the official statement by English premiership football club, Leicester City announcing the sack of it's first team coach, Claudio Ranneiri.

Claudio, appointed City manager in July 2015, led the Foxes to the greatest triumph in the Club’s 133-year history last season, as we were crowned champions of England for the first time. His status as the most successful Leicester City manager of all time is without question.

However, domestic results in the current campaign have placed the Club’s Premier League status under threat and the Board reluctantly feels that a change of leadership, while admittedly painful, is necessary in the Club’s greatest interest.

We Give MTN, DSTV and Others 2 Days to Leave Nigeria or Face Trouble - Nigerian Students Issue Ultimatum Over Xenophobic Attacks

The National Association of Nigerian Students has given all South African companies in Nigeria 48 hours to relocate over the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.

The students gave the ultimatum at a demonstration at some South African companies in Abuja on Thursday.

During the protest the students carried placards and a banner, which read, “NANS Against Xenophobic Attacks on Nigerians.’’

The President of NANS, Mr. Kadiri Aruna, said in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria at the office of DSTV, a South African company, in Wuse 2, Abuja, that Nigerian students had resolved to condemn the attacks.

A new South African political party want foreigners driven out

South African First, a fiercely nationalist political party founded in December by budding Pretoria politician, Mario Khumalo wants foreign nationals driven out of South Africa and borders sealed to protect the country from crime‚ drugs‚ and prostitution and ensure that only locals benefit from scant economic opportunities.

The 37-year-old politician said its main mandate was to do away with foreigners who threatened patriotic South Africans’ livelihoods.

"Their tuckshops, hair salons and businesses are crippling our people," Mr Khumalo said.Khumalo is explicit about his anti-foreign sentiments‚ blaming millions of foreign nationals in South Africa for the country's social and economic problems. He calls himself a nationalist, and said he was merely voicing what most South Africans were thinking and talking about behind closed doors.

Man drugged and gang raped by 4 women in Zimbabwe

In a case that has left many people in shock, four female sperm harvesters pounced on an unsuspecting Zimbabwean teacher last Friday evening  and reportedly kidnapped, drugged and “gang-raped” him.

After the attack, the teacher was left naked in a bush with bruised private parts and woke up feeling extremely weak on Saturday morning.

Zimbabwean prophet claims he has God's direct phone number

Controversial Zimbabwean prophet, Paul Sanyangore has said he has God's direct phone number and receives calls from him on how to help his followers. Speaking to H-metro, about a video where he was seen prophesying to a church member while on the phone during his Sunday service, he said: 'I have a direct channel, actually I have his number and I can call him when need rises.

People believe that the prophet could have been on the line with someone with information on the church member, but he responded saying:

'It is possible to talk to God, why would you doubt that I got a call from him? I actually have a direct line which I can call him and get instructions on how to proceed. I got this when I was praying and I heard a voice telling me to call direct.
